Vasectomy is a method of birth control for males. Vasectomy is a surgical procedure for male sterilization or permanent contraception. During the procedure, the male vas deferens are severed and then tied or sealed in a manner so as to prevent sperm from entering into the seminal stream (ejaculate) and thereby prevent fertilization. An egg cannot be fertilized when there are no sperm in the semen. The testicles continue to produce sperm, but the sperms are reabsorbed by the body. The surgery is also known as family planning surgery.
Some patients who have undergone Vasectomy Surgery need to reverse the surgery due to personal reasons. The reasons could be untimely death of the children or second marriage. Such males need to get the severed vas joined in order to become fertile again. This surgery in which the vas which were severed earlier are joined again in order to allow the sperm to flow in the seminal fluid is called Vasectomy Reversal.
Vasectomy reversal (vasovasostomy) reconnects the tubes (vas deferens) that were cut during a vasectomy. Vasectomy reversal is usually a daycare procedure (without an overnight stay in the hospital). Spinal or general anesthesia is commonly used to ensure that you stay still during the surgery. A Unique Technique for Vasectomy reversal was introduced by Dr Suresh Vatsyayann. The technique known as the `Vatsyayann Technique for Vasectomy Reversal' is a Single Suture Dual Purpose Technique in which a Single Suture is given which acts as a stent in the Vas and helps in healing. The Suture dissolves within the vas in the next few days. The advantages of this technique is that a Single Suture is used as compared to 8 or 16 Sutures in the Microscopic Technique. The more sutures you use, more are the chances of adhesions forming in the vas and increasing the chances of failure of the surgery. The success rate of the Vatsyayann technique is 95% as compared to the 40-45% success in the microscopic technique where more sutures are used.
Vasectomy reversal is a tricky surgery and the results are less than 50% in the hands of most of the surgeons. Our Doctors use the Single Suture Surgery technique which has a very high success rate. The cost of this surgery at our hospital is Rs. 45,000 by any of our Urologists or General Surgeons. Dr Subhash Singh is one of the best surgeon for getting either the vasectomy surgery or vasectomy reversal surgery. The success rate for vasectomy reversal at our hospital is in excess of 80%. The patients who are looking to get Vasectomy Reversal Surgery might have to get an MRI Scan done to see the actual condition of the ends of the severed vas. If the vasectomy surgery has been done by a skilled surgeon then doing the vasectomy reversal becomes easier. Brightstar hospital is on the cashless panel of most of the insurance companies.
